FROM
THE PAST
In the fall of 1882, Oliver P. Hawkins urged Norman W. Kittson
to build a hotel for the convenience of the summer and fall visitors.
After batting it back and forth, a game of "Smear"
was proposed. If Hawkins won, Kittson would build the hotel and
if Hawkins lost, he would never mention it again.
Well, the luck of the draw was with Hawkins and the first hotel
was erected at a cost of over $20,000 |

Ownership of the Kittson Hotel remained in the family until January
1904, when it was sold to Madland Lands Company. It had several
proprietors until April 1920 when it was demolished while under
the ownership of the Farmers Equity Association.
In the fall of 1926, Trinity Lutheran Church was built on the
site of the present Harvest Inn Bed and Breakfast.
Renovation began in October 1998 with the main idea to
keep most of the original architectural design. The Harvest Inn
Bed and Breakfast was opened for business in June 1999.
In November 2002, the Warstlers bought the Inn and moved in renovating
the lower level into private quarters; fulfilling a vision shared
on their first date. |
